St Chad's Greys Scouts -- About

Introduction

We are an active Scout group based in Southbank, York. The group consists of two Beaver Colonies (for children aged 5¾-8), two Cub Packs (for those aged 8-10.5), two Scout Troops (for those aged 10½-14), an Explorer Scout Unit (for those aged 14-18), and a Scout Band (for those of all ages), meeting variously in the Scout Hut behind St Chad's Church, on Lorne Street, and in the hall at Southland's Church on Nunmill Street.

We welcome girls and boys of all backgrounds, ethnicity, faiths or no faith. The Group is run as part of the Scout Association. Sections meet weekly during the school term, as well as at other events. See here for details of the sections and on joining the group.

Volunteering

In order to function, we rely on a wide variety of adult volunteers, ranging from leaders in the sections to parent helpers, to our executive and fundraising committees. See here for details.

Events and Activites

Each section does a wide variety of activities and participates in a wide variety of events, including camps (at least two per year being offered for each section, and significantly more for older sections), district events, adventurous activities, skill-building activities, and community volunteering.

As well as individual section meetings and events, we hold a number of group events every year, including two camps as a group every year, the city-wide St George's Day parade, an annual awards night, and other events.

Uniform

Scouting is a uniformed organisation, and members should wear the uniform at meetings unless advised otherwise. Uniforms can be purchased from Emblazon York, on Micklegate, or online through Scout Shops or Glasgow Scout Shop belts will be provided by the group.

Data Protection

All data is kept on a GDPR-compliant system, and not distributed outside the group except for anonymous information about youth members and personal information of adult members being shared with the national Scout Association for census and administrative purposes, safety-relevant information being shared to activity providers and camp organisers when you sign your child up to externally-organised events, and as required by law. Parents/guardians of all members have access to the My.SCOUT system, through which they can view and manage the information that we hold about them and their children. All data will be deleted on the member leaving the group.

On occasions, photographs, videos, and audio recordings of our members will be used for publicity purposes, online or in person. If you do not wish your child to be included, please inform your Section Leader or the GSL.

Costs

Our subscription costs are £40 / term, and cover all activities except for camps, which are charged separately, with pricing dependent on the costs of running the event (as a charity, we attempt to run all events to approximately break even, while maintaining a contingency fund).
